Meet the Artist

Ed Valdizan is a Peruvian-American artist who uncovered his talent in his late 40’s. He has worked as a hotel manager for many years in countries like Peru, Costa Rica, Mexico and the United States. It was while living in Chicago that he took drawing and painting classes at the Triton Community College and discovered himself to be a very eclectic painter.

Ed paints purely by instinct. He is a very experimental visual artist who is at peace with creativity and for whom there is no formality when he enters into his "art zone" with his brushes and colors.

His artwork consists primarily of domestic scenes in ordinary life, but in vastly diverse worlds -- from an Amish man in a small Midwestern American community to an indigenous woman selling clay jars by the side of the road in a little Andean town in South America.

Ed also flirts with abstracts and semi abstract compositions, using the same materials with which he is most comfortable: acrylics and oil pastels on canvas.

His paintings show the duality of these worlds in which he has lived and where he has discovered his own way to communicate common life in vibrant and captivating colors. Ed Valdizan currently resides in South Florida, US.

Flamingo

A beautiful Artwork representing another animal that lives in the tropical paradise called Costa Rica. The media is acrylic on a 16" x 20" canvas.

Sea Turtle

This Artwork continues with the representation of the different species of the Costa Rican wildlife. The media was acrylic on a 16" x 20" canvas.

Boats at Sunset

Toucan wave

" This beautiful composition represents a stylized "Toucan" that has a few strokes showing Costa Rican forest. The media was acrylic on a 16" x 20" canvas.

Tapir

This Artwork has been created inspired in a very common animal which lives in the Costa Rican rain forest, the Tapir. It is a relatively small mammal that has some similarities with the boar and pig. The media used here was acrylic on a 16" x 20" canvas.

Field of Tulips

This is a beautiful and large painting using acrylic with knives on a 24" x 36" canvas and is inspired on a spring scene of a Conservatory called Morton Arboretum in Chicago, Illinois. SOLD - SOLD - SOLD

The Temptation

This new Artwork is ispired in the book of Genesis, specifically in the creation and tepmtation of Adam. The background is white, representing the inocense of man and the fruits are red, discovering the aparent beauty of the forbidden fruit. The media is acrylic, and was painted on a 16" x 20" canvas.

Limón

This beautiful Artwork represents a woman from the Atlantic coast of Costa Rica. The media used are acrylics on a 16" x 20" canvas.

Macaw

This painting shows a bit stylized "Macaw", with its original feather colours. This is a very common bird which lives in the Costa Rican rain forest. The painting has a light interior frame and cannot be rolled up but, it can be send in a flat labeled box anywhere the US and Canada. The size is 16" by 20".

Butterflies World

This is a stylized butterfly captured in the rain forest region of Costa Rica. It shows a wide variety of colours, and also hides a few small sillouettes of smaller butterflies challenging the observer to find them all. The price is US $ 135.00 and the size is 16" by 20". Toucanos

This painting shows 2 toucans observing their environment in a very tall tree in the middle of Costa Rican rain forest. They are up high in a branch of a tree. These toucans are stylized but, are showing their original colors. The toucan is a very popular bird in many tropical countries like Costa Rica. The media used is acrylic on canvas; the size is 16" by 20" inches high and the size is 16" by 20".

People of the Andes 4

This painting shows an indigenous women selling flowers at the market.

She is covering her face with her dress and clothes and carries a large amount of flowers she is expecting to sell during the day at the local market.

The hat is a very particular type of hat used by people in the Southern Highlands in the border between Peru and Bolivia.

The media used is acrylic on canvas; the size is 16" by 20" inches high.

People of the Andes 3

This composition was made with acrylic on canvas, represents one of those festivals that are common and many in the Highlands.

Men drink what is called "Chicha" a beverage made of corn and they danze and eat for three or fours days celebrating the rain, the harvest or any other farm related issue.

People of the Andes 2

This painting is called "People of the Andes 2" and shows a group of men discusing daily
affairs early in the morning when the Sun is still raising.

They are also covering their faces with ponchos and on the background we are able to see the Peruvian highlands showing their different colors.

The media used is acrylic on canvas and the size is 16" x 20" inches hight.

People of the Andes 1

This is one of my series called "People of the Andes". It represents two indigenous women selling large clay jars in the market in the Peruvian Highlands.

The media used is acrylic on canvas and the bright colors are something very particular in the Andean culture. They are not showing their faces as it is common also among the indigenous people of the Andes since for them, looking straight at the eyes shows lack of respect.

The size is 16" x 20" inches high. can be rolled up for shipping anywhere in North America including Mexico.

Boats in New England

This painting is one of my most recent artworks. I worked at the Mapplewood Natural Preserve in LaGrange County, Indiana and is inspired on a work of Professor Carl Mosher, a very famous local artist in Northern Indiana.
The media used are acrylics on canvas; the size is 16" x 20" inches wide and has a temporary frame. Can be shipped anywhere in North America including Mexico.

Indigo Bounting Birds

This composition represents two Indigo Bounting birds caught at Morton Arboretum in the state of Illinois. The place is a Private Natural Preserve area where people enjoy visiting all year round.

It is a painting with acrylics on canvas and the size is 16" x 20" inches with.

Tree of Life

This painting represents the "Tree of Life" according to a religious group of people settled in the American Midwest around the seventienth century. I repeated the tree four times and added some colours to it since the original drawing was black and white only.
It is painted with acrylics on canvas. Measures 30" high x 40" inches wide.

Baptism of Solomon's Daughter

This is one of my very first artworks using acrylic medium. It is an original and is inspired on one of my [charcoal] drawings with a live model at the Chicago Community College. After Blue Nude decided to work again using just one more color besides white. Dimensions are 12" by 16".

Mardi Gras Pineapples

This artwork is an original using acrylic on canvas and was a caption from a very colorful old quilt hanging in a general store in Shipshewana.
I gave different patterns and texture to the color stripes on the pineapples and made them very festive.
Dimensions are 12" by 24" on a wooden frame stapled on the back.

Old Amish Man

This is a beautiful acrylic painting. It shows an old Amish man inside his buggy [from a passenger's perspective] looking at a house and an Amish woman drying a load of laundry in the backyard.
The size is 16" by 20" acrylic on canvas artwork original.

The Sunflower Barn

This painting was inspired in a picture taken at Solomon Farms by Du Pont Road in Fort Wayne. I used acrylic on canvas and added oil pastels on the petals of the Sunflower. The size is 20" by 16" and has a rustic wooden aged frame.

Blue Nude

This painting is called 'Blue Nude". The media is acrylic on canvas; the size 12" by 16" and is a composition that came originally from a charcoal drawing I made in one of my art classes with a live model at Triton College in Chicago.
Instead of focusing on details I decided to make a drawing of the general silouette of the woman and then give it a touch of honest sensuality. There are only two colors used on this composition: blue and white.

Cardinal Rouge

This artwork is also one of the first ones I painted. The media is acrylic and oil pastels on canvas and the size is 14" x 11".

The picture of the bird was taken in the midwest during the winter months and is a male Cardinal. The background is bluish and helps the bright red feathers of the bird. SOLD - SOLD - SOLD

Painted Face ~ Cara Pintada

This is one of my first artworks and was inspired by the famous French artist Francoise Nielly. As you are able to see this male face has strong, colourful strokes and deep details in the eyes using bright and indistinct colours.

The media is acrylic on canvas and the size is 16" x 20". It resembles a sport team fanatic.
